The study of quantitative and qualitative trends of folk culture is one of the new studies in the field of folk culture. In our region, there is a stressing need for bibliometric studies, which use the statistical methods to analyze books, articles and other publications applying the methods that are frequently used in the field of library and information science. These studies will enable us to study the quantitative and qualitative trends of intellectual production.
The application of bibliometric methods in the field of folk culture and on the intellectual production published in folk culture magazine and journals will contribute to revealing the objectives and geographical trends in the field of folk culture. This study can be called "folkmetric studies"; a new research derived from the term “bibliometric” and the term “folklore” (bibliometric being a blend of "biblio" meaning book, and “metric” meaning measurement or statistics; and "folklore" which is made of two parts; “folk”, meaning people and “lore”, meaning traditional stories and history of a particular country or culture).
This study aims to analyze the trends of disseminating Arab folk culture by analyzing the materials published in Folk Culture Journal as a model, through the following focuses:
- Analyzing the quantitative and qualitative trends of the material published in different chapters of the Journal.
2. Analyzing the authors' objective and scientific trends.
3. Studying the geographical locations of the articles published in the Journal.
4. Studying and analyzing the objectives and trends of the articles published in the Journal.
